Both are big milestones; one for car nuts to get their show information, and the other for having an organization dedicated to helping to save your favorite hobby. If nothing else, treat nearby non-participating businesses with respect. If you see someone else doing something they shouldn’t, report them to event directors. If you see unacceptable behavior, report it or tell the person politely; they might not realize what they’re doing is inappropriate.
Basically, treat others with the same respect you’d wish to receive. Check the event website or call beforehand to see whether pets are even allowed at the car show. Over the last ten years, I've restored a 1968 C20 Chevy Pickup, 1968 Pontiac Firebird, a 1969 Triumph TR25, and I'm currently restoring a 1966 Ford Bronco.
Really any car that is potentially interesting to look at is eligible for a car show or cruise-in. There are no specific standards as to what is and is not eligible to bring to shows like these. Car shows, however, may put a stop to people bringing in their 2007 Ford Fusion (just as an example) or other standard cars you can see in any other parking lot. I have attended hundreds of car shows, had several of my classic cars in car shows and cruise-ins, and have helped organize several shows. It shows up, you get in, it takes you where you want to go, and you get out. Sometimes it's because tech doesn't work the way I want it to. Sometimes it's schadenfreude about a big hyped thing that falls flat. Sometimes it's just a sense that the tech we all depend on may be harming us in ways we don't understand and can't control.
You really are in a car, driving around the city, with no one in the driver's seat. Don’t just show up, walk around, and leave if a local business is participating in the event. They didn’t have to do so, so give them your time, attention, and patronage in return.
